That Thing Called Tadhana
written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone“Para sa mga umibig, nasaktan, ngunit umibig pa rin. You know, tatanga-tanga.” (For those who loved, got hurt but loved again. You know, foolish people.) Says the disclaimer at the start of the film.
This will be the second time that I watched this film. I first watched this film last November during the gala screening at CinemaOne Originals week. The film is sweeter the second time around.
"There are all kinds of love in the world, but never the same love twice."
-F. Scott FitzgeraldIndeed, never the same love twice. There was a different appreciation for this film the second time I watched it. There were changes from the CinemaOne Originals like the Sagada and Mount Kiltepan scenes are longer, which made it better and this addition made the film way better.
It is one feature film that focuses on just two characters, and the witty exchange of words between the two made the movie what it is. The funny and witty exchange won’t have an effect without the effective portrayal of Angelica Panganiban and JM de Guzman.
Angelica nailed her character. Charming but gullible, emotional but not overacting. She’s indeed nailed that quintessential “tanga tanga sa pag-ibig” kind of girl: you’ll sympathize and pity her, you might want to bitch slap her for being emotional and her inability to let go but in the end you still want her to succeed in getting over her lost love.
JM also nailed his character. From his uncaring attitude in Rome until in Manila, we crack his inner self when he opens up to his own heartbreak in Baguio, and slowly falling for Mace (Angelica).
I’ve been reccomending this film since I watched it last November. SO if you haven’t watched it, go and watch! You’ll regret it if you don’t.
