About “un parti pris” and “prendre parti”. Althought your definition of “parti pris” is correct, I think there’s a slight correction/adjustment that should be made for “prendre parti”. When used, this expression is about taking a side. It’s more a resolution than just a decision. In a way “parti” is a little bit like a “party” in a political sense. “prendre parti” is to make a stand, to have a strong view on a subject (the French often have an opinion on everything and everyone …).
